I want to collaborate with everyone to make a library of materials related to swordfighting, satsu, and self improvement.

I have a general idea what booksi want on the list.

  • Book of Five Rings- Miyamoto Mushashi
  • The Hagikure
  • 48 Laws of Power
  • Art of War- Sun Tzu
  • Code of the Samurai

thats off the top of my head. Ninjitsu books need to be on there, as do others. But thats what i got. I have one copy of Art of War and another floating around somewhere. I also have the 48 Laws of Power (courtesy of Kyle) and The Code of the Samurai

Any suggestions?

How about our own 5 rings of swordfighting? Among other satsu-published works soon to come out.

I'll share a bunch of stuff that we have, but ask that you guys help me find something. I have been unable to find an english translation of the Bansenshukai, an extensive ninja manual. If you guys can find it, it'd be much appreciated.

But here's some stuff that we have:

War, Warfare & Weapons in Medieval Japan

Tachidori, the practice of taking an attackers sword while empty handed

A Manual on Bushido

I've got some other stuff I'll share with you guys in your shinobi section, too.

I have a copy of the tao te ching by lao tsu. it's the second most popular book in the world (bible is the first) and the premier book on taoism.

I have Tao te Ching as well. Art of War is phenomenal.

I will actually have to say that while The Five Rings is a great book, Musashi's arrogance and hypocritical writing is counter-productive to the message he's trying to portray.

The Romance of the Three Kingdom is good, as well. It tells the history of the ACTUAL Dynasty Warriors, and is good oriental history, as well more political than the 'spirit of fighting.'

Eh, you can put it as fiction, because some of it IS dis believable. But, the fact of the matter is it is very important Chinese literature concerning the Han Dynasty and the Warring States Period. It is also acclaimed as one of the 'Great Four Classical Novels' when it comes to the Chinese. These are:

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Dynasty Warriors was based off of this)
Water Margin (Suikoden is based off of this) I want to read this SO BAD. It's about a bunch of Outlaws who band together and fight the government, and is apparently based off of fact. Also, if anyone played Jade Empire on XBOX Original (another BioWare gem) the Black Whirlwind is part of the Water Margin.
Journey to the West
Dream of the Red Chamber.
