Take this in context

To me death is final. It shows who and how you are, how you have been, and what you are. But even though death is all these things, it is one thing even more than all else; Death is the culmanation of life.

Everything you have done from since you can remember onward define who you are. But death is the end, it is your last oorah!, there is nothing past it. As i am fond of saying "I live only to die gloriously". If you die glorious, happy, and sure your life is nothing but complete.

Some people are afraid of death, I would say i am not. This time last year i was held at gunpoint and all i could think is if i got shot how my coach would be mad at me lol there was no panic for my life. No scramble to realize what i shouldve done. None of that. All i knew is that if i was to die, so be it, i am complete. A samurai was to keep death in mind at all times, to analyze things that if he were to die the next insant would he be content and proud? These are all things we can ponder, if not so heavily.

So look at it like this for boffer fighting: I have three lives, i cannot physically die, why not make some motherfucking buckus? If i shatter so what? Let as lose our fear of death within our game. I know we dont have a problem with this, but when you get limbed just die gloriously! why do we call out 300 when you go gimp? because we want the glorious death. I want to die beautifully each and every time i do.

in the book What Would Socrates Do?they compare the eastern view of life to taking a test with multiple chances to retake, while in the west this test is a final exam with no chance to retake it. this buddhist take on life and death lent itself perfectly to bushido. however, their system of honor was quite different from ours. for us, it is dishonorable and in a strange way, selfish to kill yourself and leave your loved ones alone but for the samurai, it was the only way to maintain or regain your honor. Bushido does lend itself to satsu. Some of us have too much drive to win and too much fear of loss. Rather than practicing how to win, we should practice how to lose. Only when we know this can winning become fathomable. I agree with Hector a million times over.
