the current stance training is not good the original stance training is meant for accuracy of the form not how fast u can move through it if you want speed then have a set routine u go through that way u can just say ha! and everyone goes to that form its shows more discipline then speeding through t and half the people get it wrong and look awkward in the stance just need to slow it down and get it more accurate is all im saying also u can go from high to drawing the only stance that can go to drawing is middle

You can go from any stance to drawing. It's a matter of getting it there and doing the 1-2-3 for sheathing. Don't just place it there. And the stance training we have is fast because everyone should be practicing stances on their time, and not only at practice. Plus we have very few noobs.

Well, the way I see it is that, like Steven said, stance training shouldn't be about the speed. Technique should ALWAYS come before speed. There for start off at a decent speed, then once it shows that everyone is getting the hang of it, slowly increase the speed. And those that aren't catching can be put in a different stance line so that they may have a way of learning and catching up.

Also, even though we are expected to practice on our own time as well it can be hard to find that time in the first place. Satsu is a lot of people's way of getting away from their daily life, chill with a group of friends, or if their new, meet new people. But outside of practice there is many things that someone might have to do.

Our current warm-up stance training should be left alone. We do need to slow it down and make sure people's form is proper. But the opening stance training is simply a warm-up and it shouldn't be rushed through.

However, me and Whitey came up with a concept called the "Five Rings of Swordfighting" and advanced stance training is coming to a practice near you. You guys have all the basics and you've formed some of your own unique styles, now it's time for all of us as a clan to pick apart each others' fighting styles, evaluate its strengths and weaknesses, and hopefully incorporate bits and pieces of everybody's styles into our own. You'll see very soon.

I personally think whoever leads stance training...pierre...tries to hard to make people mess up and goes through it too fast, from stance to stance. It not about speed, accuracy, or anything like that. Its for gettign into the mood, becoming one with your sword, and warming up. its not about how fast you can go from high to drawing.

One of the difficulties with stance training outside of dojo setting is decidinng what stances to use. The stances I saw used at the meeting earlier are legitimate at certain schools of kenjutsu, but they are some of the more uncommon ones. I would like to offer up for thought that we show the three standard stances that are used universally in japanese swordplay: Chudan no Kamae, Jodan no Kamae and Gedan no Kamae. The next to most common are Hasso no Kamae and Waki no kamae. Most others can be useful in certain situations, however can be akward to use if a person doesn't understand the reasons behind their developement. Personally I find the Hasso no Kamae incredibly akward and haven't been able to employ it effectively.... Anyhow, my point is that it would probably be a good idea to teach the basic stances before the more difficult or situation-specific ones.

Also, I agree the previous comments. Stances are about proper form and not speed. Speed will come with time and experience so in teaching stances and practicing them it is more important to have correct form than it is to be quick or snappy.

Praise the Doc for not being a stance-Nazi about things. One of the biggest grounds for shit-talking against us is how we're not 100% emulating any certain style. We try to teach core elements of Kenjutsu and certain drawing arts, but at the end of the day, we are still fighting in a sport, not a combat situation.

A lot of traditional swordsmanship can be used in our combat, but sometimes certain stances and cuts are altered to be effective in our game. There are moves that some of our people do with a sword that would never be practical in actual sword on sword combat, but are highly practical in our combat sport.

I'm anxious for you to share what you know with the group and I already appreciate your open-mindedness. Our next evolution in training is boiling down the finer elements of swordplay and having people around with more than three years of boffer fighting experience around is going to help out tremendously.
