Kevin and I want to practice classical japanese swordsmanship with you guys. We're gonna cover the basics and a ton of single and partnered drills for the katana that may possibly help keep you skills sharp. Kevin and I will be heading it up with me focusing on proper form, technique and strategy, and Kevin focusing on timing, distancing, and application. Please don't misunderstand, however: Kevin and I don't mean to change anyone's way of fighting. Everyone has their own grace. I simply figure, if you enjoy the battles with satsu, then you obviously have an interest in ancient combat styles of the far east. We're not shaping you guys, we're imparting with you our knowledge of the japanese fighting arts and philosophy as thanks for allowing us to play with you guys.
Suggested items: Bokken (this is a wooden sword. they are usually between 5-12 dollars at fye, or at Zen Garden in the Wellington Mall. there is also a martial arts store that has some good quality bokkens for a good price. ask me about it)
Drawing sword and a belt to wear it in (karate belts work fine. also any sword you wish to use as a drawing sword must be inspected by me for safety.)
Patience (please remember, some of you are learning something completely knew. while we hope the experience is enlightening, it may at times be frustrating. Please, don't let it hamper your fun.)
I still haven't decided whether to do this at freedom park or at okeeheelee. I say we take a vote as to the location as well as the day. My motions are for either Friday of this week from 4:00 ish to 7:00 ish or Saturday from 4:00 ish to 7:00 ish. Those two days are best for Kevin and I. my contact info is as follows: Myspace.com/drtino Facebook: Tino Gonzalez Cell: 561-253-5523 Email: Drtino555@yahoo.com
Ps: remember that unlike with satsu, the eventual goal of continuous practice in kenjustu is to do this: v
PPS: Between Kevin and I we only have 3 spare bokkens so please bring your own if possible. also, i'm also thinking about including quick draw with the swords. towards the end we will do free practice (gentle dueling). please give feedback and/or rsvp!
Use your drill to pierce the heavens!!!
